6 Surprising Ways Home Builders Can Increase Facebook Engagement

Hashtags, punctuation, frequency – oh my. If it seems like simply posting to Facebook on a daily basis is challenging enough for your company, then coming up with creative ideas to get your audience to interact can be completely overwhelming. Which day of the week is the best? When is the best time of day to post? Which types of content will earn the most shares, likes, and comments?

Recently TrackMaven analyzed 5,804 Facebook pages and 1,578,006 combined posts to find which types of posts earned the most interactions. Although the report was not specific to the homebuilding industry, it does offer interesting insights for maximizing your Facebook strategy.

Here are some surprising outcomes from the report:

What day to post: Posts published on Sundays are twice as effective as those posted on Wednesdays.

What time to post: Although 62.7% of Facebook updates are posted between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., updates posted between 5 p.m. and 1 a.m. received the highest number of average interactions at 2.49 per post.

What time of content to post: Posts with photos had an average of 2.35 interactions per post compared to 1.71 for those without photos.

Length of posts: The majority of posts (33.09%) contained 10-19 words. However, posts with 70-79 words had an average of 3.42 interactions per post. For post with 80-89 words the average number of interactions nearly doubled to 6.19.

Use of hashtags: 83.93% of posts do not include hashtags, but the use of 1-2 hashtags can increase engagement. For the small percentage of Facebook profiles that used 7 or more hashtags, average interactions increased to 5.41 per post.

Punctuation: Posts with 7 or more exclamation points produced 7.84 interactions on average.
