When is the best day and time to post to Craigslist in order to drive the most website traffic and new leads?
With an estimated traffic volume of over 50 million people in the US every month, Craigslist is a behemoth (free) online resource for home builders to reach a targeted audience of prospective homebuyers.
So how can home builders maximize this targeted audience to gain a competitive edge and drive a consistent pipeline of new leads week after week?
We recently tested performance of more than 350 home builder Craigslist postings to determine which day and time consistently outperformed based on two key metrics: new traffic to the home builder website and new leads (visitors who registered their email address).
Here are highlights from the 100 best and 100 worst performing ads:
100 Best Performing Home Builder Craigslist Ads
Of the top 100 most successful ads that we placed, 43% were on Monday and Tuesday. A full 55% of the top 100 were posted before Thursday.
Ads posted in the afternoon outperformed ads placed in the morning by nearly 2 to 1.
The highest performing day and time (based on website traffic and leads) was Monday after 12p, representing 13% of the top 100.
Other notable (and perhaps surprising) peak performers included ads posted on Saturday at 7p and Sunday at 7p.
100 Worst Performing Home Builder Craigslist Ads
Which day represented the lowest success rate consistently over time?
Of the bottom 100 in our survey, a substantial 22% were posted on Fridays. This may come as surprising news for many new home marketing and sales teams that post heavily on Fridays to drive traffic for the weekend. In fact, Friday afternoons represented the lowest performance of the week. Other low performing days and times were Tuesday mornings (14%), Wednesday mornings (10%), and Thursday mornings (8%).
Of course, success will vary based on other factors such as headline, content, visuals, and call to action. But if you are not currently using Craigslist or are not getting the results you’d like, try posting during peak times earlier in the week.
